Google Inc. the No. 1 ranked website and giant of inter-networks has launched Free Wi-Fi service for New York City yesterday on 08-01-2013. They are providing the service in the Chelsea,  neighborhood of New York. This service will be provided to the thousands of residents and millions of tourists in New York without any cost. The average speed for initial starting ranges from 5 tor 10 Mbps.
Upon starting this service, Americans eagerly want this service to be provided to their hometown because of high cost and very few service provider.
According to Google, it was very difficult to provide the wi-fi service across the wide area while there are hurdles of huge buildings so it was very difficult to send signals across such wide area.
Before this, the wi-fi service has been provided in about 20 different parks of New York but this was the first time that a public Wi-Fi service is being provided in such a wide dense urban area.
Google said it will cost about $115,000 to install all the technology. And an extra of $45,000 yearly as maintenance cost. A local advocacy group Chelsea Improvement Company paid one-third of the total cost while Google paid the rest.
Google has already provided this service in Mountain View, California. This is the place where Google has its headquarters. They first introduced and covered their hometown for this service.
The coverage zone consists of 13-block area of Chelsea between Gansevoort St. and West 19th Street, from 8th Avenue to 10th Avenue.
Google named this service as "Google Fiber". Lets see how much google will succeed to extend this service throughout the New York City and fulfill the desire of providing cost free Wi-Fi service publicly.
